Overawed by 20th solo
While stopping at the 10k buoy for a drink I said to my paddler “390k’s done, only 10k’s to go”… It was funny at the time; I guess you had to be there…
Firstly I would like to thank everyone associated with the RCSA for putting on such a great event (it keeps me coming back year after year!!!). I would especially like to thank Matija who has helped in everyway possible to make my 20th solo something special for myself, my family and support crew. I would also like to thank all the people on the boats who came over to me along the way to wish me well and last but not least everyone who cheered when I finished on Saturday. It was all very emotional for me…
Of course I have an extra specially big thank you for my family who has been through this for so many years. My support crew on the day and all my previous support crews over the years… You are so committed and integral to my success, I couldn’t have done it without all of you… Big hugs all round.!!!
I have always said every Rotto crossing is different. Boy was that an understatement for my 20th solo crossing… I just wasn’t prepared for the mix of emotions I would feel the whole way through the swim. I found it hard, which I guess is reflected in my time… But having said that I am absolutely ecstatic and I haven’t been able to wipe the smile off my face or the tears out of my eyes since the finish.
Thank you to everyone…
Congratulations Barbara
I was called away and missed Barbara coming in and I am absolutely mortified. Sorry Barbara! It was going to be the highlight of my day. But I'm overawed at Barbara's achievements and know there will be many more! Shelley
Congratulations Barbara
Awesome, what else can I say, 20 solo crossings.
We saw your banner on your support boat somewhere around the 10k mark, what an effort. You deserve all the accolades you get.
Luckily for us we managed to get to the island before you so where there for your arrival, what an effort, your emotions were evident, the crowd were ecstatic when they saw you arrive and what an arrival it was, fitting for your efforts.
Great to see that not only was it the crowd who showed there appreciation, but also the volunteeers and some of the organisers, didn't notice the president though, must have missed that one!
Always nice to see the quiet achiever get some recognition, actions speak louder than words and boy did they speak....
Cheers. Andrew Black.
