Gratitude
I've just taken part in my first Rotto Swim.
No - not as a swimmer - but as support.
Firstly to the controlling committee. - Bloody Fantastic - You are an exception. Your blood should be bottled and used for transfusions into other organizations.
Secondly. To all the swimmers - Bloody Well Done - True Aussie Spirit in everyone. Who needs Aussie Tourist adds when you lot are the real deal.
Thirdly. To all the support crews - We must be mad. Getting up at a ungodly hour and doing such as we did needs a medal for stupidity.
But what enjoyable stupidity !!
As support for a Solo, the overall camaraderie from everyone was fantastic. Personally this support team suffered a hole in the bottom of the zodiac (if any one finds it out there - please bring it back) and even running out of fuel 400m from the finish. (Thanks to those who towed us half submerged) To those that watched in amazement at a zodiac going round in circles driven by two old men in a leaky boat....Promise you we had not been drinking.
There's more to tell but not enough room here.
Thanks to all for a wonderful experience.
I/We will be back.
Vern (Tim,Byron,Paul) support crew entry #102
Thankyou
It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to the writer of this Blog.
Vern (My father ) passed away on Friday the 14th March. This was my first attempt at the solo crossing and I couldn't have asked for anyone better to help me get there. I know that the time we spent on the Day of the crossing, although he slugged it out beside me and we didn't get to speak until the end, will be with me forever.
I can only say Thanks, Farewell and I love you.
Your Son,
Zy.
