Boat and Paddler required to Support Italian Amputee (and Swimming Legend)

Italian amputee Salvatore Cimmino has literally been ‘swimming around the planet’ since May 2010, and has confirmed his intent to participate in the 2013 HBF Rottnest Channel Swim.

But he needs our help in pulling together a support team, including a boat and a paddler! Salvatore will have his trainer with him, and requires no special support or assistance other than someone willing to provide a support boat and skipper for him. A paddler is also required.

So far, Salvatore has made open water crossings in Israel, Slovenia, Argentina, Canada, New Zealand and the USA, cover distances from 20km to 48km at a time.

Salvatore’s drive in Swimming around the Planet is to raise awareness of the need to overcome societal obstacles and allow disabled people to contribute to society.

“Disabled people have full access to the latest technologies in prosthetics and robotics, education and employment” said Salvatore.

“I want to show the world that disabled people can achieve anything, and so far this message has been picked up and broadcast by the national media in all the locations where I have swum.

“I hope Perth will embrace me in the same way.”
